Metric System Bonanza!

This week started our notes on the metric system and their measuring tools!

We have taken notes on:
  • how to use the tool
  • when to use each unit of measurement
  • the size of each unit of measuremen
in our science notebook.

We have practiced using meter sticks, triple beam balances, and double pan balances.

We are even participating in our own Metric Olympics!!  Today's event was the Right-Handed Bean Grab--trying to see which country (team) could grab heaviest amount of beans.  Results will be announced next week.  Three more events are up next week!

We do not use the standard units in science, please encourage your child to practice using the metric system at home.  Here are a few ways to practice using the metric system at home:
  • identify what objects can be measured by millimeters, centimeters, meters, kilometers
  • identify what objects can be measured by milligrams, grams, and kilograms
  • practice measure items with a ruler using millimeters and centimeters
Check next week for more Metric Olympic news!
